A WEEK OF TODDLER LUNCHES

Monday 20 April 2015

I was SO stressed when I started weaning Evie. I really didn't know where to start with food. What should I give her? How much? All the information I was getting from other mums varied A LOT. I was so worried I would give her the wrong thing or not enough food. Eventually, after much internet research & advice from health visitors I've realise that everything is just guidelines...

I LOVE planning Evie's weekly meals. For lunch, we always have finger foods. I try & make them as varied & colourful as possible. I fell in love with this lunch tray & these lunch boxes from Cath Kidston. They make lunchtime a lot more fun! You can get them in designs suitable for boys & girls HERE. This isn't even a sponsored post, I literally just love them!
I try not to give Evie sandwiches for lunch everyday. With the help of Pinterest we've become really creative with her lunch. We try & give her a savoury item, one of two portions of fruit & a dairy product for her lunch. For her dinner we top her up with the protein & portions of fruit & vegetables she still needs.

Here's what Evie ate this week:
DAY 1: A marmite sandwich, cheese slices, broccoli florets & blueberries.
DAY 2: Sweet potato wedge, mackerel in tomato sauce, kale chips & a plum.

DAY 3: Baby pasta with tuna, blueberry rice cakes, banana slices & a strawberry yoghurt.
DAY 4: A peanut butter sandwich, strawberries, a handful of grapes & some mature cheddar cheese.
DAY 5: Scrambled eggs, avocado slices, a handful of blueberries & some mozzarella cheese.
DAY 6: Eggs wrapped with ham, kiwi chunks, cherry tomatoes, a blueberry rice cake & banana slices.
DAY 7: Beans on toast, a handful of grapes, a fun size orange & a raspberry yoghurt.

What do you think of Evie's colourful lunches? What do you give your little ones for lunch? :-)

    1. thank you so much! They are adorable. We had a little bit of fussiness with some foods (it took her a while to come around to kiwi) but the majority of it she loved. It was so hard to think of new combinations at first, but it became to much fun in the end. :-)

    1. It's so silly isn't it because eating is the most natural thing in the world. But it's so hard to know you're giving them the right thing. Cath Kinston do some cute boy versions as well! :-) x

  4. They look great. Perfect mix of colours, textures and different food groups for her. If she likes finger food and being hands on, here is a list of quick things you could try to get her to make with you: http://www.cookwithtoddlers.com/community/6-quick-things-to-cook-with-toddlers. 7. These are amazing! I'm a dietitian and I am crying into my pillow as my little girl will each sweet FA fruit apart from banana (mixed in her Weetabix), raisins and melon. All the ones I love like blueberrues and strawberries she won't touch. I will keep trying though!! xxx

  11. This is a great post, so many lovely ideas for lunch (I like the eggs wrapped in ham) and the lunch tray is brilliant. I find soups and dhals are also good for lunch in the winter. Your ideas would work well in picnics too so will definitely be trying them now the weather is getting better!

  12. Great ideas, we are in a bit of a lunch rut too. Not helped by smallest (16 months) refusing to eat just about anything atm, all he wants is mummy milk (probably a combination of a horrible cold/sore throat and teething). He just throws things away onto the floor most of the time now! Will try and get a few more different things on a plate for him like this, see if that make a difference! Love the plate you have! :) x
