EASY & HEALTHY TODDLER DESSERT

Tuesday 19 May 2015

This toddler dessert is deliciously healthy as well as being extremely quick & easy to make. We've been making this for Evie ever since she was 6 months old & she has always loved it, so if you're only just starting to wean your little one, you can try this too!

If you've read my post '42 toddler meals for £12', then you'll know that we love making batches of super healthy toddler dinners & freezing them. It's not only cheap, but it means that we don't have to cook every night.

To make a batch of this 'Spiced Apple & Pear dessert, all you need is one apple, one pear & two teaspoons of cinnamon.  This usually fills four of these little 70ml freezer pots. You can buy the pots HERE. They are reusable/freezable/microwavable & come with 8 pots, so you can always double the ingredients if you wanted to fill them all.
To make the dessert, simply chop the fruit into pieces, discarding the seeds & stems. Then place the chopped pieces in a pan that's on a high heat, stirring the fruit until soft. This releases the sweetness of the fruit, will make it easier for the fruits to blend together & will make your kitchen smell divine!
When the fruit is soft, pour it into the blender & add two teaspoons of cinnamon before blitzing it up to how lumpy or smooth you'd like it.
When it's blended, fill your little pots & freeze. When you serve your little pots, simply microwave them till they're warm all the way through. This usually only takes a minute, but we always check it before serving so there are no hot spots.

Does your toddler have a favourite healthy dessert? Please let us know below. We'd love to hear of some new tastes & desserts to try.

  1. Ooh this makes me excited to start weaning again, although he's not even been born yet! I'm not a fan of cinnamon myself but totally believe in offering it to my kids. I used to give Toby natural yoghurt with cut up fruit for a quick 'go to' and he used to love that. Won't touch it now mind you #weaningwednesdays x

    1. It's funny how some of the things they love they grow to hate. Evie gets very fussy with some of her favourites some days. I hated weaning at first, but really started enjoying it (mostly thanks to all the great ideas on pinterest!) :-) It's fun trying them out on new things. x

  2. This is great, I'm definitely going to be trying this one - adding ingredients to shopping list now! I am so keen to give Parker healthy food (even though I'm not that good when feeding myself!).

Love your blog, have added to my reading list so I can always keep up!

    1. Aww thank you! If we want a junk food night/takeaway, it's great that we've got Evie her own healthy food ready to go :-) The only problem is, she is now getting to that age where she looks at her plate & then looks at ours haha. We don't know how much longer it's going to be before she fusses that she wants the same. Fingers crossed for a while longer! xx
